01 Who we are

(“Computers Plus,” “we,” “us”) is a computer and device repair shop at 301 RHL Boulevard Suite 2, Charleston, WV 25309, serving walk-in customers and K-12 school districts since 1980. 02 Information we collect

Information you give us online

  • General question form: your name, email address, phone number (optional) and your message.
  • K-12 district inquiry form: school district, your name, title or role, email address, phone number, approximate number of devices and your message.
  • Email and phone: whatever you choose to include when you contact us directly.

When you submit a form, our form software also records the date and time, the page you submitted from, your IP address, and your browser and device type. This helps us spot spam and abuse.

Information we collect in the store

When you drop off a device, we record what we need to check it in, repair it and return it:

  • Your contact details: name, address, phone numbers and email address. For school districts, the district, contact person and location.
  • Device details: product type, brand, model, serial number or IMEI, school asset tag, purchase date, proof of purchase and warranty information, and any accessories left with the device.
  • Repair details: the problem you describe, our estimate and your approval, parts and labor, and the repair’s status history.

Our repair system does not store card or payment information. In-store card payments are handled by a third-party payment processor.

Information collected automatically

Like nearly every website, our web server automatically logs basic technical information for each visit: IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the date and time. We do not use analytics, advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

03 How we use information

  • Respond to your questions and district inquiries.
  • Diagnose, quote, repair, test and return your device, and contact you about it.
  • Send repair status updates by email or text message. You can opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP.
  • Process Apple warranty, AppleCare and other authorized Apple service (see below).
  • Keep records of the work we did, for warranty follow-up, our accounting and legal obligations.
  • Operate, maintain and secure this website, including blocking spam and abuse.

We don’t use your information for advertising, and we don’t send marketing emails without your permission.

04 Your device and its data during repair

Your device stays your device

Devices often hold personal photos, messages and files. During a repair, our technicians access only what’s needed to diagnose, repair and test the device. We don’t browse, copy or keep your personal files. If you ask us to transfer your data to a new device, it is moved directly from your old device to your new one, and Computers Plus does not copy or keep your files.

  • Back up first. Some repairs require erasing or restoring the device, so please back up your data before you drop it off. We take every reasonable precaution, but we cannot guarantee that data will be preserved during diagnosis or repair, and customers are responsible for their own backups.
  • Keep your passwords private. Apple advises never giving anyone your Apple Account password, device passcode or account security details, and we will never ask for your Apple Account password. If a software repair requires it, you’ll be asked to enter it yourself.
  • Device passcodes are optional. If you choose to give us a device passcode so we can test a repair, it is stored encrypted, only authorized staff can see it, and every access is logged.
  • Prepare Apple devices. Turn on Ready for Repair or turn off Find My before drop-off. See our step-by-step guide.

05 Apple service

Computers Plus is an Apple Authorized Service Provider. When we perform Apple service, we exchange your device’s serial number or IMEI, its warranty and AppleCare coverage, its Activation Lock status, and the details of the repair with Apple’s service systems. We use this only to process authorized repairs and warranty service.

The Apple Privacy Policy says Apple may receive personal data from partners who work with Apple to provide its products and services, and explains how Apple uses that information. You can manage your data with Apple at privacy.apple.com.

06 School district devices

When we repair devices for a school district, the district owns and manages those devices, and we handle them according to the district’s instructions and any agreement with the district. Devices may hold student information. We don’t knowingly collect student information beyond what’s already on the device, and we access device contents only as needed to complete the repair. Districts may send us lists of device serial numbers, asset tags and reported issues so we can create repair tickets, and we use that information only to service those devices. The other information we collect directly is the work contact information of district staff.

07 How we share information

We share information only as needed to run our shop and serve you:

  • Service providers: our website is hosted on our own secured server, and our email provider, Microsoft 365, stores and delivers the information you send us. See the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
  • Repair notifications: the email and text-message service providers we use to send repair status updates.
  • Apple: for authorized Apple service, as described above.
  • Parts and repair partners: when a repair requires it, such as a manufacturer warranty claim.
  • Legal reasons: when required by law, or to protect our rights, our customers or others.
  • With your permission: for anything else you ask us to do.

We do not sell your personal information.

08 Text messages (SMS)

If you choose to receive text messages from Computers Plus, Inc., we collect your mobile phone number and a record of your consent (date, time, and how you agreed). We use your number only to send messages about your repair — for example, that we checked in your device, that a quote is ready for your approval, or that your device is ready for pickup — and to reply to messages you send us.

We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number or your text-message consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your mobile information will not be sold or shared with third parties for promotional or marketing purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, except with the service providers that deliver our messages (such as our SMS carrier/platform), who may use it only to provide that service.

You can opt out at any time by replying STOP. Reply HELP for help, or call (304) 744-1832.

See our Text Message Terms.

09 Cookies and third-party services

Our website doesn’t set cookies for ordinary visitors. WordPress sets login cookies only for our staff when they sign in to manage the site, and comments are turned off. Our caching and SEO tools don’t track visitors.

Google Maps: the map on our Home and Contact pages is embedded from Google. When the map loads, Google may receive information such as your IP address and may set its own cookies. Our Google Maps directions links open Google Maps in a new tab, and our Apple Maps directions links open Apple Maps (covered by the Apple Privacy Policy). Google’s use of this information is covered by the Google Privacy Policy and by how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

You can control or block cookies in your browser settings.

10 How long we keep information

We keep customer repair records for as long as we reasonably can so we have your repair and warranty history on file; some of our records go back to 1998. You can ask us to delete your information at any time, unless we’re required to keep it.

Website form submissions and emails are kept as long as we need them to respond and follow up. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs for a limited time for security and troubleshooting.

11 How we protect information

This website uses HTTPS encryption. Access to form submissions and repair records is limited to staff who need it. No website, email or storage system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect the information we keep.

12 Children’s privacy

Our website is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information online from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through this site, please contact us at 304.744.1832 and we will delete it.

13 Your choices and rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information you’ve given us, or to stop contacting you. Call 304.744.1832, send us an email or visit our store. We may need to verify your identity, and we may keep some records where the law or an open repair or warranty requires it.

Depending on where you live, state privacy laws may give you additional rights. We will honor requests as required by applicable law.

14 Repair status lookup

Our Track My Repair page is for checking on a repair. When online tracking is available, the information you enter there is used only to find and show your repair, and internal technician notes and device passcodes are never shown.

Our site links to other websites, such as Apple Support articles and Google Maps. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we’re not responsible for their practices.

16 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices change. We’ll post the new version on this page and change the “Last updated” date at the top.
