Our History
More than four decades of computers, classrooms and repairs.
December 10, 1980
Founded to Serve Schools
Computers Plus, Inc. was incorporated on December 10, 1980. The formation was spurred by a need for computers and software programs for school systems around the country. Soon after, Computers Plus created PRINCIPAL, an administrative software package that allowed school system administrators to create and track:
- Student databases
- Discipline reports
- Attendance records
- Student progress
- The hot lunch program
PRINCIPAL was written in conjunction with Epson QX-10 computers. Later, a student scheduling program was added.
Mid-1980s
Bringing Apple to the Classroom
Once the computer industry gained its footing in the mid-1980s, Computers Plus, Inc. became a reseller of Apple products. With a strong background in the K-12 education market, Computers Plus began installing computer labs with Apple II and Apple IIc computers as well as Epson computer systems.
Early to mid-1990s
Custom-Built PCs for the Windows Era
When the Windows era came on strong in the early to mid-1990s, Computers Plus, Inc. started custom building desktop computers. This allowed consumers to conduct more powerful computing tasks. Early adopters of CAD/CAM and PC gaming were delighted that they didn’t have to continue using “off-the-shelf” systems.
Late 1990s – early 2000s
Software Repair for the Internet Age
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the internet was becoming a large part of everyone’s daily routine. With all of its benefits came viruses and malware, and in-store software repair became a cornerstone of Computers Plus, Inc.’s services.
